Dave Dysert, from the New York Dept of Labor, was on hand to observe the load test that took place over the past several days. Some of the tests conducted included Weight Load, Safety Circuit Switches, Brakes and Breaking Mechanisms. For the Weight Load test the lift is loaded to 110% of the normal load weight based on an average per person weight of 170 lbs multiplied by 4 persons per chairlift. The total weight for the testing purposes was 15,700 lbs.
Representing CTEC Dopplemayr, the manufacturer of the lift, were Mike Nellis, Tom Sanford, Mark Bee and Andy Pierce. CTC Dopplemayr policy is to always have their team of experts on hand for the testing of all new lifts that they manufacture.
Bristol Mountain General Manager, Dan Fuller, remarked, “I am excited about this addition to the mountain lift operations and look forward to the future opportunity to expand the terrain. The new Galaxy Express lift has the ability to transport guests from base to summit in four quick minutes. This equates to more time skiing and riding and less time sitting for our snow sports enthusiasts.”
Once the snow flies, the early operating hours will be Monday through Sunday, from 9:00am-4:00pm. During peak season, which is tentatively scheduled from December 11, 2009 - March 14, 2010, Bristol Mountain will extended their hours until10:00pm.
